I just drove by Nixon today and it looks like they are converting it into a provincial park. They have selectively logged the entire area. All large trees have been taken down. It looks awful. This used to be our favourite place. It's really sad.

This place was partially destroyed by two Tornados that had happened at the end of October in 2016. Half of destroyed camp sites were re-build, most debris from destroyed trees have been mostly removed. 5000 new baby-cedars have been planted around that area. The Tornado damage was significant to the campground! What was surprised that is the fact that Tornado have happened on our Vancouver Island! Thank you to BC Parks for all job that was done to clean up the mess!

Edit: my original review is below. Sadly, we came to see this beautiful site which has been a home away from home these last few years today and were faced with an active logging site. The beautiful old trees that had made this site the last truly magical site on cowichan lake were torn down. My heart was broken. I see on the sign for the contractor that they are now calling it nixon creek provincial. I am going to assume that it is one of the new areas that will be added for our 150 years parks celebration. Way to go, kill the last beautiful stand on the lake, double the cost to campers no doubt... Nice one ministry of forests. Like cowichan isnt already logged enough. Maybe we could leave just a little for future generations. Original Review: The quieter one of the forestry site bunch on Cowichan Lake. Awesome host and great private sites, total of 50, with everything from walk in beachfront to forested hideaways.

  • We've been going here for years. There was a big blowdown which caused them to remove over 50 trucks of logs. It's a lot more open than in previous years, but still a great place to unwind.
